Brass darts are ideal for beginners. They’re affordable, easy to grip, and great for learning how to aim and release with confidence. However, because brass is less dense, the barrels are thicker, which can make it harder to group shots tightly. It also makes them more affordable, so they’re a popular choice for casual and expert players alike. 

Tungsten darts are denser, which means slimmer barrels and better potential for tight groupings. The higher the tungsten percentage, the more compact and durable the dart. Tungsten is preferred for competitive play or anyone looking to step up their game.

Weight plays a huge role in how a dart feels and performs. Lighter darts (18g–22g) tend to move faster through the air and suit players who throw with a lighter touch. Heavier darts (up to 42g) offer more stability and tend to fly straighter.

For most new players, starting around 22g–25g is a safe bet. It provides a good mix of control and feel, with room to adjust as throwing style develops.

Every dart setup is a little different. Flights, shafts, and points all play a part in how a dart behaves in the air. Larger flights help with stability, while smaller ones allow for faster throws. It’s a matter of feel, and that comes with experimentation.
